Vehicle Recalls   Defect Notifications
Occasionally, vehicles, tyres and accessories sold in Australia are found to contain a safety defect. This includes both items manufactured here and those which are imported. The Trade Practices Act requires suppliers to recall goods which ‘will or may cause injury’.

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government is responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of each vehicle safety recall.

If you suspect that your vehicle has a safety defect arising from a manufacturing fault, you can notify the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.

Please be aware that you should refer any consumer matters to the Consumer Affairs or Fair Trading agency in your State or Territory. The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government is not a consumer affairs agency.
